Malaysia announces movement control order effective from 18 - 31 March 2020

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has declared that the entire country will be on a movement control order starting from March 18 to 31 to deal with the rise in Covid-19 cases. Muhyiddin said the decision was made under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and the Police Act 1967.
- Thorough prohibition of movement for assemblies including religious, sport, social and cultural activities. All houses of worship, business premises must be closed, except for supermarkets, public markets, sundry & convenient stores selling daily essentials.
- Full ban on overseas travel for Malaysians. Those returning from overseas, they must undergo health screening and self-quarantine for 14 days.
- Closure of kindergartens, government and public schools, boarding schools, international schools, tahfiz centres and all primary, secondary and pre-university educational institutions.
- Closure of all government and private universities including vocational training centres nationwide.
- Closure of ALL government and private premises except those providing essential services: among them, water, electricity, energy, telecommunications, post, transportation, irrigation, oil, gas, fuel and lubricants, broadcasting, finances, banking, health, pharmacies, fire and rescue, prisons, ports, airports, security, defence, public cleansing, retail and food supply.
