Malaysia’s biggest content producer and distributor, Primeworks Studios and iQIYI signed a content partnership deal today that will see six (6) of TV3’s top Malay drama series on iQIYI, as the leading media platform expands into the international markets.
The highlight of the deal would be the second season of the mega hit drama series, 7 Hari Mencintaiku which will make its debut on iQIYI beginning 24 July, 2020 onwards. Following its premiere on the iQIYI platform, subsequent episodes will be made available exclusively to viewers for free just one hour after its broadcast on TV3.
Having had a successful run on TV3, the first season of 7 Hari Mencintaiku will also be made available on iQIYI as a catch-up option for audiences. The intricate story of Khuzairi’s unreciprocated love for Mia and the mere 7 days it takes for Mia to realise her true feelings for Khuzairi stole the hearts of millions across the nation, raking in a total of 12 million viewers. The second season promises more intensity as we follow Mia and Khuzairi, a now seemingly happy couple through the possibility of a third person entering their marriage.
The deal includes other TV3 titles like Leftenan Zana, Kampung People, Setelah Ku Dimiliki and the much-anticipated brand-new series Pengantin Satu Malam that is set to air on TV3 in August this year and will also be made available exclusively on iQIYI for free just one hour after broadcast.
“Deals like this, with partners like iQIYI, are important for us to keep up with changing viewership trends. It allows us to not only move with the times but also reach out to potential new audiences,” said Ahmad Izham Omar, CEO of Primeworks Studios.
“It is our goal to deliver the most relevant and compelling Asian content to our users and having a high-quality catalogue of local content is a significant part of our strategy. Therefore, we are excited to announce this content partnership with Media Prima as it marks a major milestone for iQIYI in delivering relevant and compelling local Malaysian content to our users. With creative-led top management in Media Prima like box-office producers Dato’ Iskandar Mizal (Paskal The Movie, WIRA) and Ahmad Izham Omar (Pulang, Ejen Ali The Movie), we look forward to having this selection of their top content on our platform.” said Dinesh Ratnam, iQIYI Country Manager for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
7 Hari Mencintaiku 2 began airing on 2 July, 2020 via TV3 from Monday to Friday at 7pm. Episodes 1-16 will debut on iQIYI on 24 July, 2020 and all subsequent episodes will also be available exclusively on www.iQ.com and on the iQIYI app for free just 1 hour after its broadcast.
