“At a time of employment uncertainty, job losses, health and economic challenges, AMWAY Malaysia intends to guide affected communities with a promising route to financial independence and self-sufficiency.

“While we have been providing aid in the form of PPEs and nutritional food to Malaysia’s communities highly impacted by Covid-19 since March this year, we now would also like to create a sustainable platform for the affected families to increase their income opportunities. This, we hope, will in turn, enhance their quality of life, given the escalation of financial challenges due to foreclosures of businesses and retailers,” said Managing Director of AMWAY Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, Mike Duong.

At AMWAY Malaysia, he added, entrepreneurship is the heartbeat of the company. The company has to date over 260,000 AMWAY Business Owners (ABOs) nationwide.

“Entrepreneurship has always been a part of AMWAY’s strength. By sharing our business expertise and solutions, we hope to inspire and tap into the talents of affected communities especially the homemakers and those whose income were impacted, due to the pandemic. Starting a small business of their choice will enable the families to help ease any financial constraints faced during this unprecedented crisis,” he said.

Part of the company’s confidence towards the affected lower income group to become entrepreneurs stems from the findings in the AMWAY Global Entrepreneurship Report (AGER) 2020.

The report found 82% of respondents in Malaysia have the desire to become an entrepreneur, displaying the same level as the years prior (2018: 81%; 2016: 82%; 2015: 82%). 67% of Malaysian respondents are convinced that they possess the capabilities to start a business, showing the same level as previous years (2018: 63%; 2016: 63%; 2015: 69%).

55% believe they possess the necessary resources to start a business and 77% share the view that they would not drop their dream of founding and own a business, if their family or friends stood in their way (2018: 72%; 2016: 65%; 2015: 67%). 79% of respondents in Malaysia said they would leverage on their social network (family and friends) if starting a business.

“On behalf of JKM, we are very grateful to have an organisation like AMWAY Malaysia who has been consistent in partnering with us to help the communities in need. Having reached a pivotal point in this pandemic, the nutritional food baskets along with the valuable entrepreneurship insights will help ease any financial constraints faced by affected families at PPR Intan Baiduri,” said Hezleen binti Hassan, Director, JKM Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur in her speech.

To address the immediate nutritional needs of the community, AMWAY Malaysia, in collaboration with long-term business partners Philips Malaysia, Noxxa Products Sdn. Bhd and Orion Food Specialties Sdn. Bhd. donated 100 food baskets worth RM45,000 filled with food items, AMWAY Malaysia’s Pursue hand sanitizers, Nutrilite™ Bio C Plus All Day Formula and Nutrilite™ Kids Chewable Natural C along with Vergold Granola Mix Seeds & Cranberry.

The Nutrilite™ Bio C Plus All Day Formula and Nutrilite™ Kids Chewable Natural C are made from acerola cherries, one of nature’s most concentrated forms of vitamin C, essential for a strong immune system.

“Staying healthy is pertinent in facing the pandemic. We are pleased to assist families in PPR Intan Baiduri and ensure they have balanced meals and nutritional sustenance as they work their way out of financial difficulties,” said Mike.

The food baskets were distributed to the families during JKM’s Kembara Prihatin Negara programme held at PPR Intan Baiduri today. Receiving the donations on behalf of the community was Nazarudin bin Samad, Chairman of Surau Al-Hijrah Committee, PPR Intan Baiduri.

Initiated by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM), the Kembara Prihatin Negara programme is aimed at helping one million people in need.

This round of donation is the culmination of a series of contributions by AMWAY Malaysia in 2020, bringing the total of cash and in-kind contributions to more than RM3 million.

Within this year, AMWAY Malaysia has donated a total of 250 Atmosphere Air Purifier units, worth RM1.4 million to the Ministry of Health and raised RM326,940 to support the purchase of 6,500 test kits for University of Malaya Medical Centre. Apart from public hospitals, AMWAY Malaysia had also donated 25 units of air purifiers to the National Cancer Council (MAKNA) and 71 units to shelters under JKM nationwide.
