In our current state of lockdown, we may be physically separate, but Yoodo - Malaysia’s first truly customisable and 100% digital mobile service – wants to let you know that you are never alone.
For this year’s Merdeka campaign, the telco launched Bila Larut Lockdown, a touching story that highlights the feeling of isolation that has enveloped Malaysians as a result of the recent recurring lockdowns.
The video depicts a Malaysian living alone during the lockdown who, after rejecting multiple attempts by his friend to check up on him and chat on the phone, finds himself having a conversation with the furniture in his home. What follows is a message conveying the necessity of reaching out to family and friends in these challenging times.
Chow Tuck Mun, Head of Yoodo, commented that Bila Larut Lockdown is a slight departure from Yoodo’s typically bright, bolder, and cheekier festive videos. “This year, we wanted our Merdeka video to send a message of empathy and togetherness to viewers. Malaysians are typically communal people – we enjoy each other’s culture through our food, festive celebrations and even entertainment. Through this video we wanted to encourage Malaysians to continue to reach out and check on each other even as times are hard.”
“We empathise and relate to the isolation that many Malaysians have been feeling – some of whom have not even seen their loved ones for a prolonged period,” Tuck Mun continued. “It’s important to reach out to our loved ones especially now and Yoodo is committed to helping our users stay connected with their loved ones.”
In the spirit of Merdeka, Yoodo is also looking to celebrate new and existing Yoodo users with a special Merdeka From Home giveaway. New users who spend a minimum of RM20 as well as those who port in their existing lines to Yoodo during the campaign period will stand a chance to win amazing prizes that includes a Samsung 65-inch 4K UHD Smart TV, Nintendo Switch, Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, and more! The Merdeka From Home campaign ends 30 September with weekly winners chosen at random.
