iQiyi releases strongest anime slate yet, with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc leading the list

The year-end anime slate comprises 18 films and series, including classics such as “My Hero Academia” and “One Piece”, as well as new hits like “Mushoku Tensei” and “Mieruko-chan”

Leading Asian entertainment streaming platform iQiyi today announced its year-end anime slate, which includes the highly anticipated Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc and films from the popular My Hero Academia franchise.

The list also features heroic-fantasy series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Part 2) and How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom; the paranormal-themed The Vampire Dies in No Time and Mieruko-chan; along with romance shows My Senpai Is Annoying and Taisho Otome Fairy Tale. Additionally, Thai-dubbed versions of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, The Detective Is Already Dead, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom (Part 1) and BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS will also be available on iQiyi.

iQiyi’s anime content continued to drive viewership across Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan in the first 9 months of 2021, with over 650 million views and almost 95 million cumulative hours watched. The year-end slate features seven beloved anime films available on-demand, including My Hero Academia: Two Heroes and My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising. Meanwhile, fans of One Piece can indulge in a slew of films from the franchise, including One Piece Film: Z (2012), One Piece Film: Gold (2016), One Piece: Episode of East Blue (2017), One Piece: Episode of Skypiea (2018) and One Piece: Stampede (2019).

Originally a manga created by artist Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer’s first season Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba became an instant hit, garnering high praise from viewers and critics alike. The film sequel Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train made box-office history in Japan by being the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time. Continuing the story from Mugen Train, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc follows Tanjiro Kamado and his friends as they join Tengen Uzui of the Demon Slayer Corps in a crusade against the demons Gyutaro and Daki.

Other upcoming fantasy series on the list include two shows adapted from hit Japanese light novels (young adult novels). The first is Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Part 2), which tells the story of a jobless and hopeless man who reincarnates in a fantasy world with his old memories still intact. Meanwhile, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom (Part 1) sees protagonist Kazuya Soma abruptly landing in a medieval European kingdom. The series, produced by Slayers director Takashi Watanabe, follows Kazuya’s efforts at reforming the kingdom with his modern-day knowledge of science.

Fans of the supernatural genre will be thrilled by The Vampire Dies in No Time and Mieruko-chan, two series that blend comedy and horror in their own unique ways. Dubbed by legendary voice actors Jun Fukuyama (Assassination Classroom) and Makoto Furukawa (One Punch Man), The Vampire Dies in No Time sees vampire hunter Ronaldo arriving at the castle of Dralc, a feared vampire who is rumoured to be invincible. However, Ronaldo quickly learns that Dralc turns into dust at the slightest of attacks – making him possibly the weakest vampire in the world. Mieruko-chan meanwhile, revolves around high schooler Miko, who suddenly gains the ability to see gruesome spirits and monsters. Despite her attempts at ignoring the existence of supernatural, Miko’s resolve is constantly challenged by her best friend Hana’s penchant for attracting ghosts, and the zeal of wannabe-exorcist Yuria.

Those seeking more romantic tales can look forward to the charming office romance of My Senpai Is Annoying, and the love story of a Taisho-era arranged marriage in Taisho Otome Fairy Tale. Finally, two action-packed series, the sci-fi and military themed 86 - EIGHTY-SIX (Part 2) and the ninja-filled BORUTO-NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS, will also be available on iQiyi.
