Following Cambodia’s recent announcement welcoming fully vaccinated visitors from any country without quarantine requirements upon arrival, AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK) will be resuming flights between Kuala Lumpur and Phnom Penh, Cambodia, beginning 26 Jan 2022.
To kickstart the resumption of quarantine-free travel to Phnom Penh, AirAsia will operate a weekly flight schedule of two return flights from Kuala Lumpur every Wednesday and Sunday. More routes will be added and frequencies increased as travel demand grows in tandem with the reopening of more leisure destinations in the near future, subject to approval from the authorities.
From now onwards, guests can book their flights to Phnom Penh from just RM194 one way for travel between 26 January 2022 to 23 March 2022 through the ‘Flights’ icon on the airasia Super App. Guests can secure great value flights+hotel deals of up to 30% off through the ‘SNAP’ icon on the Super App. In conjunction with AirAsia’s 20th anniversary celebrations, guests can also book their hotels separately under the “Hotels” icon with savings up to 20% using the promo code HAPPY20 from now until 20 December 2021.
Fully vaccinated travelers from Malaysia who wish to travel to Cambodia must meet the requirements set by the Cambodian Government prior to purchasing their flights and upon arrival.
Riad Asmat, CEO AirAsia Malaysia said: “After Thailand and Singapore, we are excited to announce Cambodia as the third country for international quarantine-free travel that we are resuming operations to. We are fully ready to welcome the resumption of flights to Phnom Penh which has been a very popular leisure destination for AirAsia in the past. We have already witnessed an overwhelming response for guests traveling to Singapore via the VTL and to Thailand over recent times, and we expect a similar rebound in Cambodia and in other markets for international leisure travel as restrictions continue to ease.
“AirAsia is proud to support this initiative by the Cambodian government and we look forward to launching more flights to the country soon.
“From an operational standpoint, we have prepared extensively to ensure all of our guests can travel safely, seamlessly and with peace of mind. AirAsia guests are assured of the stringent health and safety protocols enforced on all of our flights with our highly trained and fully vaccinated crew continuing to deliver the world’s best service during the pandemic.”
HE Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, Cambodia, said, “On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia, I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to AirAsia for reconnecting and encouraging people to come to Cambodia. Under the strong leadership of Samdach Akka Moha Sena Padei Techno Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, more than 90% of our 16 million population are fully vaccinated which ranks Cambodia fifth in the world, supported by the recent announcement of booster shots and inoculation for children aged five years.
“On November 15th, 2021 the Royal Government of Cambodia officially announced the reopening of the country to welcome fully vaccinated international tourists and travelers without any state quarantine at all international gateways and checkpoints with less restrictions, requirements and complications. Since then, we have seen a significant increase in the number of travelers and international flights.
“All international tourists and travelers are required to have a negative COVID-19 PCR Test taken within 72 hours of travel and proof of being fully vaccinated that is legitimate and acknowledged from the original respective country. Upon arrival all international tourists and travelers will need to conduct the COVID-19 diagnostic Rapid Test (free of charge) and if the result is negative, they are free to travel anywhere in Cambodia.
“We are looking forward to welcoming all fully vaccinated international tourists and travelers to the Kingdom of Wonder – Feel the Warmth - Safe and Clean.”
AirAsia has spent the period of downtime in travel over the past 20 months to further improve and revamp its flight procedures and processes. In the interests of the safety and wellbeing of its guests and employees, only fully-vaccinated employees will operate flights and be on-duty at airport terminals. Furthermore, AirAsia assures the highest safety standards are in place as part of its robust Covid-19 mitigation plan including by accepting only fully-vaccinated guests onboard, making it mandatory to check-in via the airasia Super App that integrates with vaccination records on MySejahtera, and will soon launch a unique FACES facial recognition boarding system that will make the entire journey fully digital and contactless.
Despite mostly not flying for a good part of the past 20 months, all AirAsia’s aircraft are properly maintained according to procedures set by the manufacturer. AirAsia has set up an in-house maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) unit called Asia Digital Engineering that provides services not only to AirAsia but also other airlines. Likewise, all its pilots and cabin crew are regularly trained for mandatory refresher courses and ongoing retraining so that they are always on top of their job requirements.
