The Selangor state government today launched the third edition of Platform Selangor and pledged to onboard and assist 10,000 more local micro merchants across Selangor to digitize their business and operations.

Platform Selangor, or PLATS, is a promotional platform and digital directory built by the Selangor state government in the year 2020 to help micro merchants (such as hawkers, grocery store owners) adopt and access digital technology for a more sustainable and resilient recovery amidst the new norm. PLATS created the first ever e-Bazaar Ramadan in 2020 that had helped more than 100 micro merchants; whereas in year 2021, the initiative helped to digitize more than 7,000 merchants and created more than 1,000 job opportunities for the B40 community through the Rakan Digital Selangor program.

This year, the initiative looks to equip 10,000 more micro merchants with technology literacy and empower them with the necessary digital skillsets to sustain and expand their business operations. Above and beyond expanding the listing of food courts and Ramadan Bazaars on the digital directory, the PLATS website will also be upgraded with new tools that will help these merchants manage and fulfil the increased capacity in food orders and deliveries.

Speaking at the launch event at Tapak Bazar Ramadan at Bandar Kinrara 5 in Puchong, Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Amirudin Bin Shari, Menteri Besar Selangor, said that PLATS is undoubtedly a transformative experience, and possibly a milestone, in the lives of many micro merchants.

“We have witnessed how Platform Selangor and its supporting initiatives has consistently proved that it is possible to help these merchants find opportunities in the new normal by tapping into digital technologies and creating demand for their products and services. We intend to continue this momentum to help and support more merchants to power a stronger recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Amirudin Bin Shari added that the Selangor state government will be working very closely with all its 12 local authorities (pihak berkuasa tempatan) in various initiatives to speed up the onboarding process.

There will be curated training and development sessions to teach micro merchants on how to use digital technologies to generate more revenue and exposure for their businesses. A dedicated support center will also be set up to guide these merchants to be digitized online through PLATS, whereas the Rakan Digital Selangor team will continue to help the micro merchants on marketing and branding through digital and social media platforms.

Also at the launch event were Y.B. Puan Rodziah binti Ismail, EXCO Perumahan, Kesejahteraan Bandar & Pembangunan Usahawan; Y. Bhg. Dato’ Johary Bin Anuar, Mayor of Subang Jaya Council; and Y.M. Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar bin Raja Salim, CEO of Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB).
