Samsung recently introduced three new Galaxy Tab S8 tablet models: the Galaxy Tab S8, S8 Plus, and S8 Ultra. Among the three Galaxy Tab S8 series tablets, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the most distinctive one as this is the first time Samsung introduced an "ultra" model to its Samsung Galaxy Tab line. Furthermore, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the top model among the three because it has the highest specifications.
This tablet, for example, has the largest screen (14.6 inches), the largest battery capacity (11,200 mAh), the Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4 nm) chipset and two 12 MP selfie cameras. Not only that the Galaxy Tab S8 carries the highest specifications, but it is also the most expensive of the three variant.
Unboxing the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra
The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra comes in a predominantly white box in color. The words "Galaxy Tab" with a shiny light grey accent and a picture of the blackish-grey Galaxy Tab S8 device can be seen on the front of the packaging box. The text "Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra" is also visible beneath the device image.
The size of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra packaging box is the first thing that strikes you when you hold it due to the size of the tablet itself. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra that we received comes with the Book Cover Keyboard bundled with the tablet.
When you open the box, you'll notice the SAMSUNG text on top of another white box containing the Book Cover Keyboard. As you take out these white boxes, you will find the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 itself beneath it. A digital pen (stylus) S Pen, a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable, a SIM card ejector tool, and a user manual are also included in the box.
As usual, Samsung does not include a charger head in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra retail box. Users can either use their existing charger adapter with the USB Type C interface or purchase a 45-watt Superfast charging adapter separately.
The Stylus S Pen that comes with the Galaxy Tab S8 has an elegant matte black design and is Bluetooth Low Energy enabled (BLE). Thanks to BLE, the S Pen on this tablet has many features, such as running air actions (commands with specific gestures without touching the screen), writing, drawing, taking screenshots, and acting as a pointer like a cursor, and many more.
As a result, writing or drawing with the S Pen on the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra screen feels very similar to writing or drawing on regular paper. The S Pen is only 8 grams and has a 0.35 mAh battery.
Large Screen With A Refresh Rate Of 1-120 Hz
Compared to the other two variants, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has the largest screen at 14.6 inches. The screen is nearly the same size as a 15-inch laptop. As a result, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is Samsung's largest tablet to date.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra screen is a 14.6-inch Super AMOLED panel with a WQXGA Plus resolution (2,960 x 1,848 pixels) and a pixel density of 240 PPI. As a result, the tablet screen can display images or content that are sharp and clear.
The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra Features a Notch That Houses a Dual 12MP
The two front cameras have a 12 MP resolution and include a wide camera and an ultrawide camera. Another intriguing feature is that the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra screen already supports an adaptive refresh rate of at least 1 Hz and up to 120 Hz.
On static content, this tablet screen can be set to a low refresh rate of 1 Hz. As a result, more energy will be saved. Meanwhile, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, navigating menus and switching between applications feels fluid and smooth. In the same way, when watching videos or movies.
The Super AMOLED screen on the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra also supports the on-display fingerprint scanner feature. In addition, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra's screen is scratch-resistant, thanks to a Gorilla Glass Victus Plus protective glass.
The screen of this tablet is still easily smudged with fingerprint prints. However, these stains can be easily removed by wiping them with a microfiber cloth.
An Amazingly Thin Body
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has a 5.5mm thick body. The body of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra in horizontal orientation (landscape) measures 208.6 mm in height, 326.4 mm in width, and 5.5 mm in thickness. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra feels very thin and premium with these dimensions and flat frame edges.
It is not recommended to hold the tablet in one hand, unlike 8-inch phones or tablets, because the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has a super-large 14.6-inch screen and weighs around 728 grams.
When it comes to the back, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra retains the design of the previous Galaxy S tablet line, such as the vertical arrangement of the two rear cameras. The two cameras are a 13 MP main camera with autofocus (AF) and a 6 MP ultrawide camera with an LED flash.
The back of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra tablet is made of Armor Aluminum, which has a matte finish rather than a glossy finish that creates a mirror effect. It feels quite slippery when you hold it, making it prone to slipping when held in one hand.
Users can purchase the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra Book Cover Keyboard. Aside from being a tablet protector, the Book Cover Keyboard that comes with this keyboard will also maximize the use of tablets and be able to transform your tablet into a laptop when in Samsung DeX display mode. The keyboard that comes with the cover also has a trackpad.
However, when using the Book Cover Keyboard, the weight and thickness of this tablet automatically increase, becoming nearly 1.4 kg (tablet, Book Cover Keyboard, and S Pen) and around 15 mm. Users can also purchase their own case and use a Bluetooth keyboard to support the use of a tablet in a laptop desktop display in Samsung DeX mode.
Four Stereo Speakers
The power button, volume control button, and microSD card slot are all located on the right side of the tablet. When the tablet is used in a horizontal orientation, this section will be on the top (landscape). On the other side, a 3-pin connector connects this tablet to the Book Cover Keyboard. Because these connectors are made of magnets, they are simple to attach and detach.
A pair of speaker grills are located on the tablet's top. At the bottom, there are two more speaker grills and a USB Type C port. So, in total, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has four stereo speakers blended by AKG, the world's leading audio manufacturer. Dolby Atmos technology is also built into the quad speakers.
These quad speakers will be able to provide a 360-degree surround sound effect with loud sound when used in landscape mode.
Specifications for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra
In terms of hardware, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4nm) System-on-Chip powers Samsung's premium tablet (SoC). The chipset is paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. This tablet's RAM and internal storage can both be expanded.
For example, Samsung includes a RAM Plus feature with a capacity of up to 8 GB. The RAM Plus feature will make some storage media available as virtual RAM. The RAM Plus feature allows the tablet's RAM, which was initially 12 GB, to be expanded up to 20 GB.
The internal storage capacity can then be expanded up to 1 TB by inserting a microSD card into an external microSD card slot. WiFi 6E, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 5.2, and three microphones are among the other features of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. This tablet is already equipped with the Android 12 operating system and the One UI 4.1 interface.
Book Cover Keyboard
The Book Cover Keyboard is a Samsung-exclusive accessory for the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. This add-on includes a back panel cover as well as a magnetic keyboard that attaches to the tablet. This keyboard accessory is made of antimicrobial polyurethane leather and consists of a touchpad with a glass layer. It has dimensions of 326.8 x 215.4 x 14 mm and weighs 644 g. This unique keyboard is similar to a standard laptop keyboard in that it has letters all the way up to the Numpad at the top. A trackpad is also provided for moving the cursor around.
Connecting a tablet to the Book Cover Keyboard on the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is as simple as connecting the connector at the bottom to the one in the accessory. This connector is magnetically attached as well, making it easy to attach and detach. This keyboard accessory is simple to use and produces little noise when in use. In general, it is similar to a laptop keyboard.
The function keys, similar to those found on laptop computers, appeal to us. There are keyboard shortcuts such as Alt, Shift, Ctrl, and F1-F12. Surprisingly, this button can be used to access shortcuts commonly found on laptops. Ctrl+A, for example, selects all, and Alt+F4 closes the tablet application.
The trackpad can then be used in the same manner as a laptop. One finger, for example, can be used to enter the application, two fingers to scroll up and down, three fingers to see all the applications that are currently being used, one finger to zoom, and so on.
Summary
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra for us is arguably the best Android tablet ever released. Starting with a wide and large screen, four stereo speakers, beautiful cameras, fast performance with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, large batteries, versatile and responsive S Pen accessories, and Book Cover Keyboard accessories, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has a lot going for it.
In general, we believe that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the best tablet for those who are productive and need to carry your tablet with you wherever you go. Furthermore, there is the Samsung DeX mode, which allows the tablet to be converted into a laptop. This makes it easier for you if you have an impromptu task that needs to be completed right away.
