For the time being, Samsung is undoubtedly the most well-known name in foldable smartphones. Each year, it unveils two of its most prominent lines: the Fold and the Flip. Samsung has recently announced the release of the Galaxy Z Flip4 5G, its latest foldable smartphone. For the past few weeks, we've been using a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 as our primary device.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 we examined appears to be very similar to the Galaxy Z Flip3 at first glance. The experience is like using a smartphone with different "innards." Even though this smartphone appears to be the same from the outside, it has quite a few internal improvements. It's likely that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4's many benefits will entice some Galaxy Z Flip3 owners to upgrade. Check out ZulYusmar.com's comprehensive review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 below!
Flawless Perfect Design
As a result of upgrading to a more robust aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass Victus+ coated glass panels, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is more durable than ever. Whether deliberate or accidental, the Galaxy Z Flip4 has a smaller hinge size than its predecessors. That said, Samsung has upgraded the hinge mechanism and made it sturdier.
Samsung claims that after 200,000 opens and closes, this hinge is still in good working condition. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is similar to its predecessor in that its hinge can be opened at a specific angle, called Flex Mode.
The IPX8 certification means that this folding smartphone is also waterproof. However, due to a gap or distance between the top and bottom of the screen, even when folded, especially in the middle, Flip4 is not dustproof.
When compared to its competitors, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 also has a more aesthetically pleasing design. The South Korean boy band BTS served as inspiration for one of the colours, Bora Purple. Colour options beyond Bora Purple include the dramatic black of Graphite, the soft gold of Pink Gold, and the universally flattering Blue.
Bespoke Edition, offered by Samsung, features several different colour combinations beyond the company's standard offerings. The only place to get your hands on this special edition is on Samsung's official website, where you can also pick out your own custom colour for your device. The smartphone's rear camera panel, frame, hinge, and bottom panel can all be customised to your liking.
To discuss the various aspects of this smartphone, there is a microphone at the top. Below is another set of microphones, a USB-C port, and speakers. A SIM tray is found on the left. The volume and power buttons are on the right. This power button also serves as a traditional fingerprint sensor. The response is satisfactory, and it is also simple to reach with the right thumb.
Bezel-less screen
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 has a dual display, with the main foldable screen inside. For those wondering, it's the exact dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3. The cover screen is 1.9-inch Super AMOLED with a resolution of 512 x 260 pixels. The refresh rate is 60Hz, which is standard.
Nonetheless, this screen has been enhanced with new features, such as the ability to display particular images, GIFs, and videos with a maximum duration of 15 seconds and 100 MB in size. Then, the user can put widgets, such as speed dial, for up to three of their most often called people.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4's external screen can be a remote for smart home devices when paired with the SmartThings app. This is where you'll find access to your device's supplementary configuration options, such as Bluetooth and Airplane Mode.
The internal screen has a similar look and feel. Keeping the 6.7-inch, Full HD+-resolution, 2X Dynamic AMOLED display. Widescreen format with a 22:9 aspect ratio, 120 fps refresh rate, HDR10+, and 1,200 nits of peak brightness.
There are two minor variations in the Galaxy Z Flip4 that you might not notice at first. At first glance, this phone appears shorter than the Z Flip3 due to the reduction in bezel size. This display has an energy-saving Adaptive Refresh Rate function that ranges from 1Hz to 120Hz. For non-moving content or when the phone is in standby mode, the lowest refresh rate of 1Hz is used. To reduce power consumption, of course.
In our testing, we found that the 60Hz indicator showed up in programmes that did not support high refresh rates after we enabled the display refresh rate through Developer Options. The 120Hz refresh rate is served chiefly when we play games and apps support it, though some videos are also shown at that rate.
Smooth and Simple to Use OneUI 4.1.1
When it comes to user interfaces built on Android, OneUI is at the top of the popularity chart. The newest version of OneUI, 4.1.1, built on Android 12, is also very user-friendly on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. The newest Samsung OS is incredibly easy to use.
A quick glance at Google News, customised to the user's interests, contributes to the uncluttered design. Features such as the widgets, notification bar, app drawer, and the list of recently used apps all appear to be the same. As of version 4.1.1, One UI, users have access to Smart Widgets, a particularly exciting addition.
Reduce the number of widgets on the screen by grouping them together with this feature. Colour Palettes allows users to change the UI colours to match their chosen wallpaper. There are four default colour options from which to choose; pick one if you like.
Some of the most exciting features of this foldable smartphone are made possible by OneUI 4.1.1, such as the flexibility of the multitasking and Flex Mode options. Flex Mode separates apps so that the primary content is at the top and the interactive elements are at the bottom. This function makes use of the inclinable screen of the Galaxy Z Flip4, which can be set at an angle of 75 degrees.
You can use Flex Mode with several preinstalled apps, including YouTube, Gallery, and Calendar. The OneUI 4.1.1 OS also includes the option to "force" third-party apps into Flex Mode via the system's configuration settings.
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Incredible Performance
In terms of processing power, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip inside. This processor appears significantly faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on paper. Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, this one is an upgrade.
When it comes to temperature, speed, and power consumption, the company claims that its 4nm architecture is superior. Three clusters make up the chipset, with the main core running at 3.2 GHz, making it significantly faster than the 3 GHz Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.
Each of the three groups is noticeably quicker than the one before it. This system on a chip (SoC) is compatible with 8GB of RAM, 128GB, 256GB, and the recently introduced 512GB configuration. The smartphone still lacks a microSD card slot, however.
Furthermore, we tested its performance in various games, including the casual game Subway Surf, PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and COD Mobile. The smartphone battery gets warm after 40 minutes of playing PUBG Mobile on HD graphics and medium frame rates.
Meanwhile, when using HDR graphics and Extreme frame rates, the smartphone body heats up faster, despite only being used for about 20 minutes. The device's battery drains faster, from 80 to 67 per cent. Despite this, the game runs smoothly without lag for the two different graphics. The game also runs smoothly without glitches in Mobile Legends and COD Mobile. The device does not become hot after about 30 minutes of play.
Battery: Small Yet Powerful Enough
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4's performance, which is still quick but efficient, reduces the battery life expectancy. According to PCMark, for a phone with a 3,700 mAh battery, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 can be used up to 9 hours, which is quite good. Furthermore, with regular use, this phone can make it through the workday with as little as 20% of its battery life.
When it comes to charging, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is compatible with both fast charging at 25W and wireless charging at 15W. Our testing shows that a full charge from 5% to 50% takes about 30 minutes. It takes roughly a bit more than an hour to go from 5 per cent to complete while the phone is activated and connected to Wi-Fi while it charges.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 retains the same camera setup as its predecessors. The Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and FE all share a typical 12MP sensor in their primary cameras. The sensor is a whopping 1/1.76", with pixels measuring 1.8m in size. According to Samsung, the primary camera on the Galaxy Z Flip4 can capture 66% more light when shooting in low light, thanks to an improved sensor.
Night-time footage shot with a Samsung device receives help from the Auto FPS feature, which automatically adjusts the frame rate to maintain a steady, cinematic quality. Additionally, both optical and electronic image stabilisation is supported by this camera. The Z Flip3's ultrawide camera is the same 12MP unit found in the Z Flip3, minus autofocus. However, Samsung has yet to adopt the in-screen camera technology. The Galaxy Z Flip3's 10MP camera is kept by the South Korean manufacturer.
Two of the most intriguing in-built features are the ability to use the rear camera for selfies by projecting the viewfinder onto the outer screen. In addition, you can still take pictures even if your phone is folded. The secret is to press the power button twice quickly. The Galaxy Z Flip4's primary camera will connect automatically to the secondary display for a live feed. The primary camera can still be used for selfies, and users have the option of using it in 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, or 22:9 aspect ratios.
The Flex Mode is yet another addition that facilitates the taking of wefies and selfies without using a tripod. A simple hand gesture will activate the 5-second timer. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is on par with the cameras found in other high-end smartphones.
Samsung's imaging hardware and software produce high-quality images from each camera. We like the vibrant colours, precise details, and low background noise levels. These three cameras on the Samsung folding smartphones can take high-quality photos day or night.
Summary
In terms of foldable phones that are truly pocket-ready and pocket-friendly, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is currently the only option.
In addition to its cutting-edge design and powerful performance, the Galaxy Z Flip4 5G is a smartphone that can fulfil its customers' demands. Whether the user is a content creator, a multitasker, or a gamer, there is a mobile app for them.
The Galaxy Z Flip4 5G is equipped with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a lot of RAM, and a large storage capacity, allowing it to deliver respectable performance. We think this is a reasonable price for a phone that has the potential to be a top pick this year.
The design hasn't changed much from its predecessor, but the quality has. The strength of the material, the action of the hinge, and the overall durability have all been greatly improved. This smartphone has a relatively quick and efficient processor, making it ideal for any situation.
Also, the screen is exceptional for watching videos or browsing social media sites like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter. As an improvement over its predecessors, this model's battery life and charging time are also noteworthy.
To accommodate typical smartphone use, Samsung increased the Galaxy Z Flip4 5G's battery capacity to 3,700 mAh from 3,300 mAh. The above-mentioned chipset not only allows for greater storage capacity but also for up to 30 per cent lower power consumption compared to the model it replaces.
As a bonus, the fast-charging ability has been upgraded to 25W, allowing this device to be recharged in just about an hour. The IPX8 rating ensures that the Galaxy Z Flip4 5G can withstand being submerged in water without suffering damage.
The optics in the camera are top-notch. The videos and photographs are of the highest calibre in every respect. This Samsung foldable smartphone can snap a selfie in any lighting condition, day or night, tripod or no tripod. We give the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 a positive review. Compared to its predecessor, Samsung has genuinely achieved smartphone perfection with this model.
