Twitter Circle, a new way to engage with a select number of people
Sometimes you just want to talk to your people. Your Twitter is your space, and Twitter wants everyone to feel in control of their experience. That’s why Twitter has introduced Twitter Circle - a new way for people to share their Tweets with a smaller group, up to 150 people. With Twitter Circle, people have the ļ¬exibility to choose who can see and engage with their content on a Tweet-by-Tweet basis. This means that people can have more intimate conversations and build closer connections with a smaller crowd. Starting today, it will be available to everyone on iOS, Android, and Twitter.com globally.
“We want to help people break the ice, feel more comfortable Tweeting, and have a way to communicate more privately with people they choose. We built Twitter Circle with this in mind, and after testing and feedback, we’re releasing Twitter Circle to everyone. We will continue to build a healthier, more enjoyable Twitter so that everyone can join the public conversation on their own terms,” said Jay Sullivan, General Manager, Consumer and Revenue Product, Twitter.
How does it work?
Before posting a Tweet, people will see the option to share it with their circle or full followers list. This list can be adjusted at any time. No one will be notiļ¬ed of any changes people make to their circle. And people in a circle will see a green badge under Tweets sent to the small group - these Tweets cannot be Retweeted or shared.
Available to everyone
Twitter began testing Twitter Circle in May 2022 with a limited number of people on iOS, Android, and web. Now, after a successful test run, the feature is being rolled out to everyone globally. Twitter Circle is for people who want to:
- Feel more comfortable Tweeting and expressing themselves
- Eliminate the need for alternate or secondary accounts
- Share content with a close and evolving group of friends
- Avoid toggling between protected and public account settings
