AirAsia to add extra low fare flights ahead of peak travel period for Chinese New Year and Hari Raya to connect loved ones across many popular destinations

For the upcoming festive period, AirAsia will be adding extra low fare and red eye flights from Kuala Lumpur and other main hubs to various destinations across Malaysia and beyond, enabling more people to be reunited with their loved ones at this important time.

AirAsia has been steadily increasing its flight frequencies and resuming routes as the airline bounces back from a two-year long hiatus to cater for significant pent up demand. This year alone, AirAsia has reintroduced flights to everyone’s favourite domestic and international destinations such as India, Cambodia, Vietnam and many more and the airline has also been gradually increasing its flight capacity to cater to rising demand. However, the recovery path has been a challenging one for AirAsia as most airlines are faced with the global shortage in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility slots to get all its aircraft back into service.

Riad Asmat, CEO of AirAsia Malaysia said: “As the people’s airline we will always champion the best value fares which is more important than ever right now. The festive season is one of our busiest periods and our goal is to enable everyone to be able to fly home to be reunited with their families during this special time. Therefore, we’ve decided to add extra flights to and from our most popular destinations, enabling everyone to ‘balik kampung’ affordably.

“Undoubtedly, these last few years have been tremendously hard for everyone and even as travel is now fast rebounding this year, AirAsia has not been able to put out as many extra flights as we’d like simply because of the ripple effect of the pandemic. We are still constrained by limited planes as our fleet is undergoing mandatory maintenance checks after two years of hibernation and the limited availability of MRO hangars would mean that these checks are taking longer-than-usual. We are doing all we can to support our valued guests and we are so thankful to be bringing back all of our flight crew who were on furlough due to no fault of their own, and we are also now hiring additional cabin crew to support this V-shaped recovery.

“It’s incredibly heartwarming to know that as our operations slowly start to resume normalcy, we are able to cater to the rising demand and connect more people to the amazing places in Malaysia and across Asia - and most importantly, to be able to bring them back with their loved ones in time for the festivities. While we’re still constrained by the restart of the global air travel revival, our guests can rest assured that from next month and leading up to Chinese New Year and Hari Raya, we will be adding as many flights as possible for our core domestic and international routes, helping to ensure everyone can fly back home in time to celebrate. Taking into account the working folks’ busy schedule, we will factor in a number of red-eye flights for the same low price so that there are plenty of choices for everyone. Stay tuned for our upcoming promos and deals on these extra flights!”
