Shining Light on Forest Preservation with Educational Programmes

In recognition of the contribution, Taman Tugu has offered UNIQLO two corporate plots to adopt for tree planting. The corporate plot is a newly launched initiative by Taman Tugu, and UNIQLO is the first corporate partner to partake in this initiative. Measuring nine square metres (3m x 3m) each, the corporate plots allow UNIQLO to plant at least five indigenous trees per plot that are crucial to the local nature’s ecosystem.

The initiative with Taman Tugu also sees the donation channeled into the park’s Plant Giveaway and Plant & Hunt programmes. The year-long Plant & Hunt programme is designed for children to learn about plants' lifecycles and seed dispersion through a series of educational activities. The 90-minute fun and knowledge-filled session will take place every alternate weekend from 10.30 a.m to 12.00p.m. Meanwhile, the Plant Giveaway programme will take place every Saturday from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. in which 200 plants of various species will be distributed to the public as an initiative to raise awareness on the importance of reducing carbon footprint among the communities.

“It is our collective responsibility as a corporation to protect and preserve our urban forest park for the local community, and ensure green spaces are maintained and taken care of for the future generation. We are honoured to join forces with Taman Tugu and hope this collaboration will be able to help protect more endangered trees and enhance the biodiversity of Taman Tugu,” said Evelyn Tan, Sustainability Director of UNIQLO Malaysia.

“Partnerships with large corporations like UNIQLO can help effect real change and progress in forest conservation activities. We appreciate UNIQLO’s support and believe their contribution will help raise environmental awareness and benefit the conservation and preservation efforts atTaman Tugu,” said Tracey Surin, Head of Fundraising, Activation and Communications of Taman Tugu.
Since 2020, UNIQLO started using environmentally friendly shopping bags, made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper that is harvested in a responsible manner. The implementation of RM0.30 charges for paper bag in UNIQLO’s stores is in line with the retailer’s sustainability measures to reduce the number of single-use materials used in its operations. Under this initiative, customers are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags whenever they shop at any UNIQLO stores.

Proceeds collected are channeled towards various sustainability efforts, including this donation to Taman Tugu for its forest conservation projects.
