An investigative thriller featuring an award-winning cast led by Khir Rahman, Siti Saleha, Aqasha and Jasmine Suraya
Viu, PCCW’s leading pan-regional OTT video streaming service, launched their fifth Viu Original drama this year, Hilang, featuring Khir Rahman, Siti Saleha, Aqasha and Jasmine Suraya. The series will stream on the platform starting Thursday 17 November 2022, with two new episodes every Thursday thereafter.
Mr Kingsley Warner, Country Manager of Viu Malaysia, said, “Viu Malaysia has produced award-winning titles such as Ganjil, Seribu Nina, and She Was Pretty, all of which have won accolades at the recent Asian Academy Creative National Awards. With Viu Original thrillers Black and The Bridge previously winning awards and fans in Malaysia and beyond, we hope to raise the bar for Malaysian mystery dramas yet again with our latest launch, Hilang. Viu-ers will surely be entertained by this drama, especially those who love murder mysteries with an added supernatural element.”
Hilang is jointly directed by local auteurs Ghaz Abu Bakar and Sein Qudsi, who are reunited after serving as co-directors on Black Season 2 (2021). Ghaz Abu Bakar directed the 2015 blockbuster Polis Evo, in addition to Bulan Dan Pria Terhebat (2020), Cicakman 3 (2015) and Hantu Kapcai (2013), while Sein Qudsi started out as an actor in the early 2000s before making his directorial debut with the action-thriller, Langgar. He then wrote, directed and produced Till Death: Azalea's Wrath (2019), the first Malaysian movie broadcasted exclusively on a streaming platform before its theatrical debut.

The 10-episode investigative thriller follows Inspector Munir, a native of the fictional town of Seri Daik who returns to his hometown after 17 years to investigate the murder of a teenage girl. He runs into Yusof, a religious scholar Munir blames for his sister's death during a failed exorcism. Yusof believes the culprit they are looking for may not be of this world. When another teenager disappears under mysterious circumstances, Munir and Yusof are driven into an unlikely partnership to uncover the evil that infests Seri Daik.
Inspector Munir is played by Khir Rahman, a familiar face to Viu-ers, who starred in the Viu Original series Keluarga Baha Don Seasons 1-3, Black and AI.5YA. Khir was the national winner for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2021, Best Actor (Film) at Anugerah Skrin 2017, and Best Actor at the 2013 Kuala Lumpur Film Critics Awards.
Inspector Munir is partnered with officer Chen Ai Yun (more commonly known as Cay), a well-liked and trusted authority figure in Seri Daik. Cay is played by Jasmine Suraya, known for her roles in movies such as Daulat (2020) and Paskal (2018), as well as the 2020 series Bidadari Salju. Aqasha joins the cast as Yusof, following his roles in series such as Mr Millennium (2021), Beri Sedikit Waktu (2020) and Hilang Yang Kembali (2019). Most recently, he appeared in the blockbuster hit Air Force The Movie: Selagi Bernyawa (2022).
Completing the principal cast of Hilang is Siti Saleha, playing Wangi, the girl adopted by Yusof’s father, who grew up together with Yusof. Siti Saleha starred in Viu’s hit adaptation of the K-drama Black, for which she won Best Actress in a Leading Role (Malaysia) at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2021. Other shows she has appeared in include Mandatori (2017) and 7 Hari Mencintaiku (2016), spawned two sequels.
Viu-ers will be able to watch the series on the Viu app, which is available for free download from the App Store, Google Play, Huawei App Gallery and selected smart TVs, as well as on the web at www.viu.com
