Featuring nostalgic favourites and authentic Malay recipes specially prepared by new Head Chef Shamsul Kamar Hashim
Inspired by the rich culinary heritage of Malaysia and deep traditions of the Malay culture, Temple Tree Resort Langkawi invites everyone to take a trip down memory lane with its Ramadan Buffet spread served from 27th March until 21st April 2023. Themed “Selera Tradisi Bonda” which translates into “Mother’s Traditional Favourites”, a mouth-watering spread awaits as the resort’s new Head Chef Shamsul prepares classic favourites during the month of Ramadan, using only the freshest and sustainably sourced ingredients from local farmers and fishermen on the island.
Highlights of this year’s breaking of fast feast will include the visually striking and sumptuous Roasted Lamb with Mint Sauce & Black Pepper Sauce on a spit at the lively food stall, while the unique charcoal aroma will permeate the air enticing guests to make a beeline for the Ikan Bakar with Air Asam and an array of other freshly grilled meat and seafood, all prepared and cooked on the traditional dapur arang (charcoal stove), which in the good old days, were once deemed as a must-have kitchen equipment in every kampung household - and it doesn’t get any more authentic than this!
For those craving more, explore other delectable items on the buffet spread showcasing colourful variety of street and home cooked dishes. Some of these that will be available at the buffet and are not to be missed are Bubur Lambuk, Murtabak, Penang Char Kway Teow, Ikan Tenggiri Asam Pedas Melaka, Sambal Udang Petai, Gulai Tulang Rusuk Perak, Negeri Sembilan Gulai Itik Salai, and so much more.
Complementing the star dishes will be different types of rice such as Nasi Tomato and Nasi Briyani, a variety of kerabu items such as Kerabu Mangga, and selected condiments of jeruk, keropok, ikan masin, sambal and ulam-ulaman, to name only a few. Look forward to popular dishes from other parts of Malaysia such as Laksa Sarawak and Mee Kolok from the noodle counter, and hearty Sup Tulang Rawan and Sup Ayam Cendawan from the soup counter. Other items to be featured at the buffet include the must-have kurma, a selection of Malay kuih-muih and refreshing cold drinks to quench your thirst such as sugar cane, soda sirap, and cincau. End the meal with a glass of teh tarik and classic sweet treats such as cendol, bubur pulut hitam, and lai chi kang.
Chef Shamsul says, “Ramadan is always a special month for me growing up in a traditional Malay kampung. I remember the smell from my mother’s kitchen as she was busy preparing a buka puasa spread for the family. I hope to bring to this year’s Ramadan - my first with Temple Tree Resort Langkawi - a selection of traditional dishes from my mom’s kitchen that are distinctively Malay from age-old recipes that have been passed down through generations. To the locals here, I’d say ‘Mai ramai ramai sini buka puasa sama sama, jangan sampai terlepaih peluang!’ (Don’t miss out this opportunity to come together over a meal this Ramadan)”
