This concludes BananaBro’s 2023 Zero Hunger campaign in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pillar 2
BananaBro, Malaysia’s everyday curry place and banana leaf powerhouse fed 500 homeless individuals in Kuala Lumpur, another important step in their efforts towards a hunger-free world. This was the culmination of BananaBro’s Zero Hunger initiative that began in September of this year in collaboration with Sunway University.
The first phase saw BananaBro set up a booth in Sunway University with the primary objective of selling 500 "Buy 1 Craving Set, 1 Craving Set goes to Charity '' vouchers. A total of 248 vouchers were sold, showcasing the community's support for the cause and BananaBro’s commitment to addressing hunger-related issues.
Phase 2 of the initiative unfolded with customers redeeming their Craving Sets at BananaBro's Sunway Pyramid outlet within the stipulated 2-month period followed by today’s food distribution. Despite only selling 248 vouchers BananaBro made up the difference and fulfilled its promise to feed the 500 homeless individuals that were there today.
Aaron Gan, BananaBro CEO said, “At BananaBro, we embrace the UN's goal of "Ending hunger and ensuring access to safe, nutritious food for all people" by 2023. In collaboration with Sunway University and engaging with SESO, we take pride in sponsoring the event through our initiative "Buy 1 Craving Set, 1 Craving Set goes to charity." By uniting our efforts, we are sowing the seeds of a hunger-free world and forging a path towards a brighter, nourished future. Together, we are committed to making zero hunger a tangible reality.”
To ensure the success of this noble cause, BananaBro collaborated with SESO, a reputable non-governmental organization (NGO) actively working with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) to provide food for the homeless in and around Kuala Lumpur. SESO's involvement added an extra layer of credibility to BananaBro's commitment, reinforcing their dedication to making a positive impact in the community.
Nadia, Co-Founder of SESO said, “We at SESO are happy that the community comes together to support those in need during the festive seasons. We want to thank BananaBro and the Sunway student community for all their efforts towards our event this year.”
BananaBro expresses its gratitude to the community, customers, and partners who contributed to the success of both phases of the Zero Hunger initiative. The company remains steadfast in its commitment to driving positive change and looks forward to continued collaboration with like-minded organizations in future endeavors.
