In a landmark collaboration aimed at driving medical innovation and enhancing patient care, Hospital Picaso and the Digital Health and Medical Advancement (DHMA) Impact Lab of Taylor’s University have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This strategic partnership, formalized at a ceremony attended by distinguished guests and faculty members, marks a significant step forward in the realms of healthcare and academia.
Hospital Picaso, renowned for its commitment to excellence in personalized, patient-centric care, joins forces with Taylor’s University, a leading higher education institution with a wealth of research experience. Together, they aim to leverage their respective strengths to pioneer new advancements in medical physics and other critical areas of healthcare.

This MOU is initiated by Professor Dr. Yeong Chai Hong from Taylor’s University and Dr. Basri Johan Jeet Abdullah, an interventional radiologist at Hospital Picaso. They are distinguished researcher and practitioner collaborators in cancer diagnosis and treatment innovation, having embarked on multiple research projects together. Their current focus is on pioneering a minimally invasive radiotheranostics approach for treating cancer. This innovative method offers new hope to patients who do not respond effectively to conventional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.
"At Hospital Picaso, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of medical science," stated Dr Basri Johan Jeet Abdullah, an interventional radiologist at Hospital Picaso, emphasizing the hospital's mission to integrate cutting-edge technology with compassionate care. The hospital boasts state-of-the-art facilities and a team of experts focused on advancing healthcare through innovation.
The collaboration with Taylor’s University opens doors to joint research projects that promise to revolutionize medical treatments and improve patient outcomes. Areas of focus include the development of new medical devices and innovative therapies, as well as advancements in oncology and interventional radiology.
"We believe that research is the cornerstone of exceptional healthcare," added Dr Basri, highlighting Hospital Picaso's ongoing research initiatives in breast cancer and novel chemo- or immunotherapies. These efforts underscore the hospital's commitment to enhancing medical understanding and treatment methodologies.
Guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Taylor's Impact Labs aim to empower communities address societal challenges through research, education and advocacy. DHMA is one of the 11 Impact Labs at Taylor’s, aims to enhance healthy quality, affordability and accessibility using innovative approaches and digital technology.
"The DHMA Impact Lab fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among academics, practitioners, industry partners, community-based organisations and students to fulfil our commitment in creating a world where enhanced health and wellness is accessible for all," said Professor Dr. Chong Pei Pei, Director of the Digital Health and Medical Advancement Impact Lab, Taylor’s University.
Under the MOU, both institutions will also collaborate on community service projects and offer valuable internship opportunities to students, providing them with practical experience in a real-world clinical setting.
Professor Dr. P.T. The MOU signing ceremony was attended by academic staff and research fellows from Taylor’s University, and medical specialists from multiple disciplines in Hospital Picaso, underscoring the significance of this collaboration in shaping the future of healthcare.
As Hospital Picaso and Taylor’s University embark on this collaborative journey, they invite stakeholders and the community to join them in fostering a future where healthcare innovation thrives and patient outcomes are optimized.
